In one of Copenhagen’s hippest districts, you find a small part of the traditional Japanese cuisine. Even though the restaurant is located right next to the famous Istedgade you immediately feel like being in Tokyo or Osaka when entering the small door to Jah Izakaya. That feeling is exactly what the people behind Jaz Izakaya has tried to create, as they wanted to create an authentic Japanese gastropub.
The concept of the restaurant is based on social dining, and they recommend you to order 3-5 dishes. Then you get full and can taste a lot of delicate Japanese food. The menu is mostly centered around seafood and include grilled squid, sashimi, grilled mackerel and ceviche. However, it is also possible to get meat-based dishes, which include panko fried steaks, fried chicken, gyoza and carpaccio. They also have dishes without meat or fish, but if you are looking for good vegetarian/vegan options, you should probably look for other restaurants. Besides the classical and seasonal dishes in the menu, there is always 1-2 “dishes of the day”, which are dishes they only offer that day, so you can always experience something new when visiting Jah Izakaya.
As the name of the restaurant suggests, they have a huge variety of different types of sake from all over Japan. Their cocktails are heavily inspired by Japan as well, and they contain ingredients such as shochu, Japanese whisky and gin.
Why you should go
You should visit Jah Izakaya if you want a casual night with a full Japanese experience and if want to try Japanese delicacies which you will not find at your local sushi restaurant.
